Success of Apprenticeships

11th February 2022

Earlier this week, we published an article detailing the importance of apprenticeships to us at Baywater Healthcare, you can check it out here: www.baywater.co.uk/healthcare/celebrating-national-apprenticeship-week. National Apprenticeship Week is also an opportunity for us to celebrate the success of the apprenticeship scheme to us as a company.

Meet Ryan Conlon, Ryan joined us in August 2019 on a Workshop Technician apprenticeship. Upon passing his apprenticeship in January 2020, Ryan has gone from strength to strength and began a new role within the company as a HOS Contracts Administration Support last month. We recently asked him several questions about his apprenticeship.

How did you find out about the apprenticeship?

I found out about the apprenticeship through Indeed when I applied the reply was prompt.

How much did you enjoy your apprenticeship?

The apprenticeship was a huge opportunity for learning and developing fundamental skills. Due to the training and learning aspect, I really enjoyed it as it included both practical and theoretical work while carried out in the workplace.

What key skills did you learn during your apprenticeship?

During my apprenticeship, I learnt a lot more about engineering than I had previously known as the course was very detailed and informative and covered a huge range of subjects. I also learned a lot to do with health and safety at work and industrial environmental awareness. The apprenticeship also taught me a few diagnostic methods to use when trying to find the cause of a product failure.

What are your ambitions for the future?

From the workshop, I have progressed onto a ten-month secondment working with Contracts, this role is very informative and very interesting. I’m working with a good team and carrying out very important tasks. This role has shown me a completely different side of the business and I hope to move into a permanent role in this position in the future.

What advice would you give to somebody considering an apprenticeship with Baywater Healthcare?

For anyone considering an apprenticeship at Baywater Healthcare, my advice to them would be to focus, the work that gets put in shows its value as you progress. Grasp every opportunity that comes your way, and you will have the potential to go far. And most of all, enjoy the journey!
