Select Recovery Oxygen Service
Safety
When used and stored correctly, oxygen is safe.
Please always follow these guidelines:
Cylinder expiry date
Medical oxygen has a use by date of three years from the date of manufacture. The cylinder expiry date is indicated on the barcoded sticker, which is usually situated on the shoulder of each cylinder. Please pay particular attention to this label. Medical oxygen is not suitable for use after the date indicated.
Safe cylinder storage
All oxygen equipment should be stored in a cool, dry place with good airflow. Please ensure that all cylinders are firmly secured when not in use. Cylinders should be kept away from any flamable items – such items will have a flamable logo on them or will list paraffin or oil as an ingredient on its packaging.
Cylinders can be laid flat if needed.
When moving a portable cylinder, use a cylinder bag where possible and ensure that the straps are firmly secured. Cylinder bags can be purchased if needed.
Larger B10 cylinders should be moved with caution, trolleys are available for purchase at an additional cost.
Keep away from fire and heat
All oxygen equipment should be kept well away from candles (including scented candles), barbecues, fires, welding equipment and gas cookers. Oxygen helps fires to burn. Keep away from heat including heaters, hot conservatories and hot vehicles. Recommended distance for oxygen therapy equipment from fires 3m (10ft); radiators and heaters 1.5m (5ft).
Ventilation/air flow
Always make sure there is fresh air when using oxygen. Try to keep a window or door in the room ajar when the equipment is in use.
Cylinder maintenance
Baywater Healthcare cylinders do NOT require any maintenance or servicing within the shelf life of the cylinder. Prior to being delivered, our cylinders are fully tested, which means they require no additional servicing for three years. We recommend that you check your cylinder(s) regularly, each week to ensure that they are in date and fit for use. It is important that you check the gauge, on/off regulator and tubing.
Keep equipment clean
Only use a clean, damp cloth and mild non-scratch cleaning materials to clean the equipment (do not use a scouring pad, wire brush or abrasive cleaning products), and allow it to dry properly before using.
Faulty cylinders or consumables
Please report any suspected faults to our Recovery Oxygen Team immediately on 0845 602 0776.
If you think that a cylinder is leaking, please move it to a well ventilated area until it can be replaced.
Smoking
Smoking is strictly prohibited, this includes the use of e-cigarettes.
