Bonfire night can be a magical time to celebrate, with glowing fireworks, crackling bonfires and cosy evenings with friends and family. However, it is essential that Oxygen users take extra care to ensure that they enjoy their night safely.
Keep a safe distance from Bonfires and Fireworks
- You should keep at least 3m (10 feet) away from any fire or lit fireworks, including sparklers.
- If you are attending a public event, ensure there is plenty of open space and no risk of sparks drifting towards your oxygen equipment.
- Never sit close to a firepit, barbecue, or garden heater while using oxygen. We recommend you stay at least 1.5m (5 feet) away from any closed heat source.
Do not smoke or sit near smokers
- Smoking while using oxygen can be very dangerous as it counteracts the positive effects of your oxygen therapy and is a fire risk. You should not smoke cigarettes or E-Cigarettes (Vapes).
- Ask friends and family not to smoke near you or near your oxygen equipment.
Store Equipment safely indoors
- Keep your oxygen equipment in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from open flames.
- You should not store your equipment in sheds or garages where fireworks, sparklers, or fuel might also be kept.
Enjoy the fireworks from indoors
- If you are unsure about your safety on bonfire night, many people find it just as enjoyable (and warmer!) to watch a firework display from a window or garden room, away from open flames and smoke.
- You can also find live-streamed displays online as an alternative way to celebrate.
