Baywater Healthcare has proudly sponsored a new Communication Board at Queens Park in Crewe, helping to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for children with communication challenges.
Installed in one of the town’s most popular family destinations, the board has been developed by national charity Caudwell Children. It is specifically designed to support children who are non-verbal, have speech delays, or experience other communication difficulties. Using clear symbols and simple imagery, the board enables children to express their needs, emotions, and choices more easily.
The initiative aims to make everyday activities, such as a visit to the park, more accessible and enjoyable for all families. By providing a visual way for children to communicate, the board helps reduce frustration and empowers them to engage more confidently with others. It also encourages inclusive play, giving children of all abilities a shared way to interact and understand each other.
Families can incorporate the Communication Board into their regular park visits, using it as a practical tool to support their child’s communication development in a familiar and relaxed setting. At the same time, the installation plays an important role in raising awareness across the wider community about different communication needs, helping to promote understanding and inclusion.
Caudwell Children, which supports disabled children and their families across the UK, has developed these boards to reflect the environments in which they are placed. Each board is tailored to its location, featuring relevant icons that children can point to to express how they feel or where they would like to go.
The design process involved extensive input from children and young people with a range of speech and language needs. Through focus groups, the charity ensured that the symbols, colours, and layout are as clear and user-friendly as possible, making the boards easy to understand at a glance.
Our sponsorship of the Queens Park Communication Board highlights our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and improving accessibility. By backing initiatives like this, we are helping to create spaces where every child has the opportunity to be heard, understood, and included.
This project also reflects the collaborative effort behind the boards, with local partners involved in their production and installation, further strengthening community ties and support networks for children with additional needs.
Through this initiative, Queens Park takes an important step toward becoming a more inclusive space—one where all children, regardless of communication abilities, can play, connect, and thrive.
