What is a virtual ward?

Virtual Wards are a digital solution for clinicians to support patients in their own homes. It is a ‘wrap-around’ service that ensures patients can quickly receive the care they need whilst also reducing the need for avoidable hospital admission.

“I think this is a brilliant service. I felt a lot happier knowing I was being kept an eye on. I would like to thank the team for their support it is very much appreciated. Thank you.”

How does it work?

We offer a holistic service to support the NHS to monitor patients using a Virtual Ward.

  1. Clinicians refer their patients to the Virtual Ward to help the patient monitor their symptoms at home.

  2. Our Long Term Conditions Team registers the patient with the Virtual Ward.

  3. Instructions are emailed to the patient explaining how to access our service, including a link to our system to monitor themselves at home.

  4. The patient is asked daily question sets and is provided with any peripherals needed to take their daily readings. The easy-to-use online clinical portal allows clinicians to quickly see if the patient is deteriorating to act when required.

Patient Satisfaction

We are proud of our services, but the best way to ensure we are continuing to meet patient needs is to ask them directly. That is why we conduct regular satisfaction surveys. Here is a small selection of the feedback we have received:

“Just such a wonderful, caring supportive environment and people to listen when you needed them. This is such a good service!”

“My wife and I would like to thank all the staff who took the daily readings for their friendly manner and their patience. We felt very comfortable speaking to them.”

“A huge thank you to everyone. I can’t describe the gratitude I owe the whole team. I feel incredibly lucky to have been referred to the virtual COVID ward.”

“Thanks for this service, it was helpful for my mental health to know that my husband and I are being looked after and we are not alone while fighting COVID.

Really good service! I didn’t know it existed until I had COVID. Definitely helped me through a tough few weeks – my message was responded to almost instantly and had a reminder/check-up call to see if everything was ok when no results posted. Overall, a good helpful service!”
