CarePortal is a Class 2a medical device grade android tablet with MDD approvals, specific information to educate patients and assist them to manage their conditions more effectively. It can play health videos and display physio graphics, and with its rear high definition camera can take photos of wounds and skin problems. With ageing comes social isolation caused by fragmented families and the digital divide, often accompanied by dementia and reducing ability to perform activities of daily living. With a large colour touchscreen and web camera it can interface via WiFi, Ethernet, USB, and Bluetooth, along with phone line (0800 freephone), GPRS (preferred) or 3G connectivity, this CarePortal device offers users a rich set of options for clinician-patient communication (two way free text and video messages, and video conferencing), education, and health management, addressing both health and social needs.
The CarePortal includes built in standard lead I ECG (No leads/wires required – patient simply holds the unit in their hands), providing rhythm, aortic pressure wave and respiration rate measurements. Hence these measurements can be recorded without the need for the additional cost of external peripherals.
The CarePortal is a portable device which would normally sit on a cradle where it is kept charged. This solution offers the flexibility of a portable device along with the ease of use of keeping the unit charged (no more trying to find the charger lead and then trying to plug the small connector into something like a tablet 4-5 times a day – you simply place the unit back on the cradle). The device can then be picked up so that users can answer the questions and take readings in the location suited for them. This makes it easy for care home staff to be able to take the unit to wherever the patient is located, rather than expecting the patient to walk to a fixed location.
The CarePortal can be set up as a multi user device to provide care and nursing homes the ability to manage all clients with one or two devices.
